For someone that would love to travel the world some day, I haven't been to many places in the Philippines and its 7107 islands. Lucky for me, my sister and my cousin invited me to come along to their trip to Batanes -- one of the most northern islands of the Philippines. And boy, I did not regret it one bit.
The mountains and the sea converge here and it's really just one big windows desktop default wallpaper come to life complete with pretty picturesque views no matter where you look. Plus, there's no signal and no wifi and just a really great way to disconnect from everything.
I'm not big on light houses, not like my sister is, but when you're there with them up close and the entire scenery around it is beautiful, you just get blown away, like I did. And though I'm not the biggest outdoors-y person, every single thing I'd see would just amaze me about how pretty nature can be. I know, late realisation but it floored me.
There were lots of cliffs and shockingly (or rather, not shockingly) I was deathly afraid to get too near the edge. Meanwhile, my sister, who is the one known as the 'scaredy-cat' was just walking towards the edge. I swear I was scared a few rocks would crumble and she'd fall off the cliff but she didn't and I was just so amazed at how brave she was. Meanwhile, I was there in the safety of the rocks, far away from the edge.
But really, it was the awesome people I went with that made the trip even more worth it. From Kiel who planned everything (and yes, everything, I literally just came along), to Pong and Abby who had the cutest love story ever and took the most amazing travel photos -- you should see Pong's photos; to Roy and Jenny -- yet another adorable SG-based couple who also took amazing photos and great video clips with their GoPro, to my cousin Jeannie and my sister, Pamy, whom I tried not to fight the entire trip. But really, it was such a blast getting to know everyone away from the Internet and Instagram.
And though I was skeptical at first to come along, the four days away from any form of technology was fantastic. Plus, I met awesome new friends (of my cousin's) and they were all incredibly nice to me and so fun to be around. I'm so excited to go back there one day with friends. For the food, the views and just the break from the city. It really is #totesamaze.
