TV Time: Idol's 24 Fails to Impress; Freddie's Gotta Be Starting Something

[Skins Brasil]
I was so excited to finally get to the Top 24, that I couldn't help but get let down by the lackluster performances both girls and boys delivered. I don't know how long this show is going to go on after Simon Cowell leaves at the end of this season, but for its sake, it better end soon. Meanwhile, the Skins episode felt more Effy than Freddie. Not that I'm complaining -- they're practically one person nowadays.

American Idol 9: Top 24

Where to start with the hot mess that is Idol season 9. 2010, I've tried to scale back a bit from the updating. With work, I know I can't handle updating everyday, much more updating about every show I watch on a separate entry. The more I got scared with Idol. I've been doing recaps since season 5 and I feel so obligated to write full blown recaps.

Unfortunately, not only has work taken up my time, but I've gotten exhausted. And with the quality of contestants this year, I don't wanna stress myself. I just wanna 'enjoy' the show and try to muster up something afterwards. Try, being the key word. I have no idea how I'll be doing things later on, but for now, here goes.
Because I'm never really a fan of the girls, I wasn't expecting much. Though I was at least hoping for a good show. Unfortunately, it was nothing groundbreaking, for real. Even Crystal Bowersox who was 'the best' among the girls, chose a relatively safe song (Hand In My Pocket) and one that really fit her -- thus staying in the box. And what was up with the Beatles-fest? Sure, Katelyn Epperly did surprise me with her Oh! Darling because I honestly thought she was going to suck. And Lily Scott did a good enough rendition of Fixing a Hole, neither of them blew me away. At all.

I'd have to give it to Didi Benami who I wasn't quite into in the past. Her take on The Way I Am really did hook me and got me addicted to the original (yes jamypye, I finally have the song). She was perhaps the most 'current' and yet also entertaining and natural performer. I would have liked to see Katie Stevens do something younger, but she stuck with an old-school song (which would have done well in season 5) of Feeling Good. Four seasons ago, most of these singers would have blown me away. But after season 6, things just got crazier and you couldn't just be a singer. You had to be an 'artist' as well, and unfortunately, they're all trying so hard to be artists. But that was more of a problem for the boys.

Finally, though I loooooove Siobhan Magnus's voice and her song Wicked Games was brilliant, but it makes me wonder what show she thinks she's competing in. I have no problems with out of this world song choices or unknown ones, it's just that her performance felt so very un-Idol and if she wants to stick around, I don't know how she'll manage if she chooses to be this way.

I won't even bother with the rest. Other than the fact that I don't think Janell Wheeler deserved the boot for her What About Love? Sure her voice wasn't very strong, but not a kick-out worthy performance. Whereas Ashley Rodriguez, I felt was the weakest link last night and didn't mind seeing her go. I'm not familiar with Leona Lewis's original of Happy but I wasn't too happy after hearing her.

Meanwhile, I was hoping the boys would have stepped it up a bit. I always prefer the boys. I was rooting so hard for them (despite the judges insisting that the girls are 'strong this year') that it was a letdown as well to see that they weren't much better either.

Though the judges didn't love it, I really really loved Joe Munoz's You and I Both. Thus it saddened me to see him get the boot so early on. I don't think he had enough exposure for him to get a following and that makes me incredibly sad. I wish Alex Lambert would have gotten the boot instead. Though I appreciated his Wonderful World performance, I don't think it was stronger than Joe's for him to stay.

Eternal favorite Andrew Garcia did great on his Sugar, We're Going Down. He's in an iffy place just because the judges have set the bar SO HIGH for him whereas others can just coast along. If given the chance, I feel Lee Dewyze could be Garcia's biggest competitor just because he did a good job on his Chasing Cars performance and it felt natural. That's what sets Garcia and Dewyze apart from the trying-to-be-artists. They already are and don't have to try so hard (I'm looking at you Todrick Hall).

Forever sexy, and loved by all womankind Casey James doesn't have a physical effect on me (I wish he'd cut his hair, but that's JUST ME). I totally get his appeal though. My sister was practically in Heaven during his performance. And for a song that I absolutely abhor and wished no one would sing after Elliott Yamin, he did a swell job as I did not gag and thought he was pretty good.

I'm sad John Park didn't do well and didn't choose the right song. Was his voice good? Yes. but it was weird because I've never heard God Bless the Child done by a guy. Still, props to him for making it through. I was so afraid he would get the boot. I wasn't so big on Tyler Grady so it's not like I really care that he's gone.

Skins 04x05: Freddie

I've read my share of fic and the angst is crazy but wow, Freddie and Effy sure know how to bring on the drama. You know how Skins is gritty and real? I kind wish they had more fluff and happiness cause I'm getting depressed. But all kidding aside, I really feel bad for Freddie. I know he got the girl in the end, but wow, what an adventure with the psychotic depression Effy has. Girl needs help and Freddie feels responsible to take care of her.

I love seeing his backstory with his grandfather (and the origami) and Freddie blaming his dad for what happened to their mom. The scenes with Freddie and Effy were so intense, I couldn't imagine that people that young were going through shit like this.

Suddenly, Cook's problems didn't feel so 'heavy.' I loved seeing him trying to comfort Freddie and just being there for him despite the fact that the girl he loved was with his best friend. I'm hoping we see more of the bromance between the two of them. And really, I just want Effy to get help. I know they killed Chris from Generation 1, but I hope they don't kill Effy just yet.
