American Idol 8: Top 5 (Loving Just the Way they Looked Tonight)

Down to Five?![Rickey]
Standards night is always my favorite night of the season cause I'm a sucker for them standards. It sucks for Pamy that Anoop missed it by a week, but I guess someone had to go. It would have been nice to see Anoop sing.

Nevertheless, now that we're down to the Top 5, it's getting harder and harder to kick someone out just because the ones that are left are actually really good and I don't exactly hate anyone, so it's gonna be hard ranking them.

It's not a bad week this week, I have to say. The judges seemed to be pouring on the praise left and right and the contestants gave them the right to do so. Thing is, will these Idols be coming out with Standards albums? Not really. Funny how this is what they seemed to do well at. Oh the irony of it all.

Well, I've got to give it to Kris Allen. It's not that I don't like The Way You Look Tonight but it just feels very very overused. And yet, when he sang it slow in the beginning and then gave it his own jazzy big band feel in the end? Love love love. His vocals are obviously spot on so he doesn't have a problem. It also does not hurt that he looks very very dapper in that suit. Oh Kris, I can't NOT love you.

From the moment Allison Iraheta opened her mouth, my jaw just dropped. Someone to Watch Over Me is Pamy's favorite song and so I kind of have a hard time finding other people who sing it well, but wow, Allison brought it. Of course she put her rock vocals on it, but she also managed to reign it in and keep it true to the real deal. The control of this very young girl on her voice is superb.

I wasn't really a big fan of Matt Giraud's song choice of My Funny Valentine. I guess the song just doesn't do anything for me (even with Constantine or Melinda). Nevertheless, I thought Matt did it justice. I can imagining slow dancing in a really nice red ball gown to it. I thought he did the latter half of the song better than the first part. I'll blamy my non-super-love on song choice this week.

WOW. NOW THAT WAS A RAT PACK PERFORMANCE. From the moment he entered, I was floored. You know I haven't been on Team Danny Gokey or anything, but I've got to give it to him for giving me the chills on Come Rain or Come Shine! I mean really. That was just brilliant and a half. That felt real and he was connecting and the way he sang the song just gave me shivers. I'm going to give Danny the love tonight because he really really deserves it.

Hello Pimp Spot Entrance, lights, and stage props. Adam Lambert is gonna win this thing and singing Feeling Good felt so right for him. The message of the song I mean. I don't necessarily think it's his best performance, but Adam was definitely in his element. This guy is in a league of his own and it feels like he's not really competing with anyone anymore.

Still, Dial Idol's been sort of wonky these past few weeks so I don't know if we can still trust them, but I guess it could still be anyone gone. I don't know who to kick out anymore because they're all pretty much on a level playing field. I would be sad if Matt went though. But with his performance tonight, I can't be so sure.
