American Idol 8: Top 7 Again (At Least They're Working A Little Harder for the Money)

The 7 Go At it Again[Rickey]
Considering the dismal state these past few weeks of Idol have been, I'm sort of happy with tonight but because for the first time, I actually thought most everyone took this seriously and started remembering this is a competition. Still, nothing earth-shattering.

Still, no one comes close to Chris Richardson's The Boss for me (currently at like 2 gazillion plays on iTunes) but the Idols gave their best shot and I'm not going to complain (too much).

I'm glad that they're back to four judges making comments. Obviously, last week did not do them any good. Sure, it's pointless to hear 3 out of the 4 comments sometimes, but we all know that we all wanna hear Simon.

Second, due to their no musical mentor, they were able to go with the time because of the lack of the packages before the performance, I don't mind that either.

The problem with Lil Rounds isn't with Lil per say. I feel that I'm Every Woman wasn't a bad performance per say. The problem is with the judges/producers. When she was doing badly (first few weeks), they kept putting her up on some holy pedestal, and now that they're wanting her gone, her performances are well getting better. So she's the victim, I feel of poor planning on the producer's part. This is all of course, conspiracy. But hey, she wasn't so bad. Doesn't mean I like her any more though.

Definitely my favorite of the night, Kris Allen really really knows how to make things his own. His version of She Works Hard For the Money was so good. I remember this being sung by someone (Jordinieta, I think?) in Season 6 and I was NOT loving it at all, but Kris took it and made it current and made it something I WANT to listen to and listen to and listen to. I hope this guy sails through to the finals because he's so worth it.

I really do think that Danny Gokey is a good guy. And though his vocals on September were pretty good, I feel like this song is well, untouchable in a sense that you've either got to be as good as Earth, Wind and Fire or make it your own, cause just singing it won't really do much. But still, Danny did his best and he's a really likeable guy. Do I think he deserves to win? Maybe not though, but he probably will make it that far.

Allison Iraheta can sing ANYTHING. I can't get over how underpimped this girl is. But hey, let's keep it this way, at least she's not annoyingly praised or anything because even with her amazing version of Hot Stuff, that I now want to bob my head to, she still gets lukewarm to good reviews when really she should have been crowned the dark horse to beat them all or something -- not that she will, but obviously she's not a super favorite. As for her outfit? Well, I'll use the age excuse and say she doesn't know any better.

Contrary to popular belief, I really do NOT have a thing against Adam Lambert. I think he's the most original performer and he definitely leaves an impression on audiences all the time. Though I didn't know the song If I Can't Have You, he surely sang the hell out of it and I appreciate the slowing down of the song. Do I think it's better than Tracks of my Tears? No, but it comes pretty close. I'm just not a superfan. I'll leave that to Pamy.

Probably not the best song choice for Matt Giraud as Staying Alive is the song I think of when you say "disco." It's even more untouchable than September in my opinion. Still, despite that, I thought that Matt did a really good take on it. Of course my love for him puts him high on my list, but I don't think this is his best performance. Do I think he deserves to be compared to Adam? No, but the judges CAN'T help it. I don't know why, but they're pitting him against him for some reason and I feel bad for Matt that way.

Finally we close the night with Anoop Desai who also sang a song I'm not familiar with, Dim All The Lights. First off let me say that Anoop actually really appealed to me tonight, physically. The scruff, the hair, the outfit? Love it all. He didn't feel to squeaky clean to me and I love it. Did he make me want to listen to the song over and over? Not really, but I thought his vocals were amazing and his presence is getting better. Definitely not kick out material.

Now Dial Idol predicts a Kris/Allison bottom 2. This is NOT my bottom 2 obviously. Though Lil did better than before, I feel like she really really deserves to go already. As for who will go with her? I hope it's not Matt or Kris or Anoop.

It's all down to favorites now and I really hope that tomorrow, my favorites stay for at least one more week. Come on Idol gods, give this one to us. Take Lil out and we'll have to roll the dice on who goes with her.
