The ultimate flower child, Drew Barrymore has been around FOREVER. Before I was even born, she was already working and that makes her pretty much a veteran in Hollywood. And yet, this woman knows how to reinvent herself, always making sure the public sees a different side of her every time she comes out.
Sure, she's had her downs (lots and lots of them), but the thing I love about Drew is just doesn't give up or wave the white flag and just keeps on fighting, keeps on living, keeps on loving. And if there's anything I can learn from her, it's to just keep on going, even when times are tough.
1. She loves life
If you're going to be alive and on this planet, you have to, like, suck the marrow out of every day and get the most out of it.
Drew always looks like she's about to embark on a new adventure. She always dives in head first into anything and is just so full of energy and drive whether it's a movie or a relationship or just about anything. I wish I were this passionate about everything in my life too.
2. She always looks fabulous
I used to look in the mirror and feel shame, I look in the mirror now and I absolutely love myself.
Despite not being a size 0, this girl knows how to rock an outfit. And it's all in the attitude. I want to be this kick ass. Drew always looks like she's having fun in whatever she's wearing. Whether she's ultra glam for the red carpet or just casually cool everyday. I want to exude this much coolness!
3. She's not in it for the fame
I'm not after fame and success and fortune and power. It's mostly that I want to have a good job and have good friends; that's the good stuff in life.
She keeps working. She keeps on making movies. She just keeps on getting better at her craft. And although she's more known for her romantic comedies (which I totally adore), I'm excited to see her direct and act in more 'mature' roles. Still, I don't mind her rom-coms at all.
4. She keeps on loving
I love romance. I'm a sucker for it. I love it so much. It's pathetic.
So she's been married and divorced quite a few times. And you can always count on her to be spotted hooking up with someone somewhere. So what? For some reason, I'm not offended by it at all. Instead of wallowing over break ups, I see her bouncing up and back. Now that's not an easy feat.
5. She doesn't really care what others think -- sort of
I want people to love me, but it's not going to hurt me if they don't.
She wouldn't have lasted this long in the business if she cared so much about what others had to say. And no matter what people have said about her, she just keeps on doing her thing. I wish I could be just like that. I think I care too much about what others think when really, I shouldn't give a crap, just like Drew. Go idol!
On Never looking back
I never regret anything. Because every little detail of your life is what made you into who you are in the end.
On being herself
There's something liberating about not pretending. Dare to embarrass yourself. Risk.
On caring about others
I never want to get to the point where it's all about my needs, and the hell with anybody else.
On not achieving perfection
When things are perfect, that's when you need to worry most.
On feeling beautiful
When I lay my head on the pillow at night I can say I was a decent person today. That's when I feel beautiful.
