American Idol 8: Top 8 (That's Why We Don't Live in the 80's Anymore)

the 8 left behind[Rickey]
What is up with this season and why am I still watching? Call me a creature of habit, but that's mainly the reason why I'm still making these things every week.

When I got home, I didn't even feel compelled to watch the show right away. Instead I chose to sleep. Tell that to my Season 5 loving self and I would have said NO WAY, but this season? Umm. Yeah kinda.

So come on Season 8! Compel me to watch you when you show on TV and not just clips over the Internet. Make me want to fight off sleep and tiredness to stay up and clap for you and fangirl over you, because really, you're not!!!

Work for my love!!! I've gone this far, so don't make me want to drop out now, because honestly, I'm really getting tired and this season isn't helping much.

So I was skeptical with Danny Gokey's oh so 'safe song choice' of Stand By Me, but when he started singing, it wasn't actually half bad. So Danny didn't give me the shivers this week like he did last, but it was pretty good. Nothing explosive for an opening number though. So minus for that. And you know who else gets a minus? Kara! Girl, that wasn't dancing. That was waving your hands in your chair. Now Paula, that was dancing.

Probably NOT my most favorite Kris Allen performance, but considering I didn't know the song All She Wants To Do Is Dance at all, he didn't bore me at all. Maybe it's his pretty face and guitar skills, because this boy can literally sing the phone book and I would still watch him. Oh judges, why do you hate this so? Hate on Lil instead, please.

So I'll get the good stuff out the way and say that Lil Rounds's vocals were definitely better this week that last. However, her take on What's Love Got To Do With It, I felt was a total rip-off homage to Tina Turner herself. I'm not Miss Turner's number one fan girl, but I HAVE watched the Ike and Tina movie a gazillion times and Lil totally just impersonated or tried to do a Tina.

Now, I know that they're all doing covers and you can't help but compare, but dude, down to the actions and the way she'd move onstage, it was so Tina. I don't know, maybe I'm seeing things but I just felt it. Nevertheless, this was my favorite Lil performance ever. But then again, it was a Tina Turner performance, so I don't know. At least she got me to write two paragraphs about her. Good job, Lil (in that sense).

People, I don't know how Anoop Desai did it, but considering the fact that I DO NOT LIKE the song True Colors, he actually made me enjoy his performance. Pretty lime green jacket aside, I thought Anoop did a fab job. It was nice to see him back to his vocal prowess because we all know what happened with Usher last week. Stay true to form, Anoop. This is when I love you best.

So Scott MacIntyre can also play the electric guitar. That's probably the highest point of this, because his song choice of The Search Is Over is probably the most cheese-tastic choice EVER. I mean, when I used to think of the 80s before knowing anything about it, I thought it was all just cheese and hairspray and shoulder pads and SONGS LIKE THIS.

This is not a good representation of the 80s for me and I feel bad that Scott chose this because he could have pulled a Billy Joel again. I know that he's trying to well, show his range, but I guess I'm just not on the Scotty boat. I really think it's down to him and Lil. I prefer Lil to go first though.

Girl, stop making me love you so much. Allison Iraheta chose one of my favoritest songs I Can't Make You Love Me and did it so so well. I remember Suzie McNeil doing this on Rockstar: INXS, yes I watched that too and I loved it, but Suzie is also way older than Allison. So when Allison opened her mouth and was back to true form. See, Allison, when it's just you and the mic? It totally works. Shiver me timbers!!!

I WANNA BE YOUR PART TIME LOVER MATT!!! WHEN YOU CALL AND IT RINGS ONCE I WILL HANG UP THE PHONE!!!! WHEN YOU BLINK YOUR LIGHTS, I'LL KNOW SHE'S WITH YOU!!! AND WHEN I PASS YOU ON THE STREET, I'LL BE DISCREET CAUSE I SO WANNA BE YOUR PART TIME LOVER!!!!

Dammit, Matt Giraud!!! What am I going to do with you?!? No seriously. The only introduction I have with Part-Time Lover is when Niko Smith sang this and though it was good, it wasn't this great. Matt knows how to make things his own and he did it so well. And for the first time tonight, I really really found myself ENJOYING something. I wasn't just drifting along waiting for the next performance, I was truly watching and enjoying and loving it. Go Matt! Let's be part time lovers.

Okay, so yeah Adam Lambert was definitely back to his toned-down self a la Tracks of my Tears, and he was sedate and all. And Mad World, I must say was a good song choice. And Adam did really good with it. But do I think it deserved Simon's standing ovation? Not really. I was barely watching (I did listen to it a few times already).

Thing is, no matter how many times he's gotten the pimp spot OKAY, so apparently, this is the FIRST pimp spot he's gotten. And that just means he's that good that it feels like his performances are the pimp spot. But I digress. Tonight, he really got it complete with alien lights and the zen chair and the standing o. YES it was good. Just not the biggest fan.

And so you know what I'm afraid of? The fact that I wrote quite a bit about those that I didn't really like (I liked Adam), and yet about those I do like, I wasn't able to muster up a lot. This just means wake up Idol folk! Entertain me! Next week, you better freaking impress me!!!

I'm also afraid. Very much so because the oh-so-reliable Dial Idol has predicted a Kris-Anoop bottom two and that I cannot accept. Oh fans, why must you not vote for them good ones?!?!
