American Idol 8: Top 10 (Ain't Too Proud to Say they Brought It)

Let's Get it On Idols![Rickey]
I have to say that they brought it. I love Soul week on Idol every year just because somehow these idol folk know how to soul things up. And though my expectations were sort of high, I have to say they didn't let me down -- at least my favorites. Did I just say I had favorites? Wasn't this the season that I stayed neutral? Not.

I'm actually getting used to NOT hearing the judge's praise/criticism, as it's been two weeks in a row that I haven't been at home to watch it. Hopefully though next week, I get to see Simon's snarky behavior because I really am missing him. And Kara's hotness.

And so we finally get to Motown week were none other than Smokey Robinson is here to 'advise' the Idols. I know Smokey's been on this show quite some time so he's got some Idol connection, plus he's got some cred, so the Idols should really get pretty good advice from him.

OH MY FRAKING GOD. NO SERIOUSLY. THIS IS THE PART WHERE I TYPE IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE I CANNOT GET OVER THE AWESOMENESS OF Matt Giraud'S ABILITY TO MAKE ME ORGASM WITH HIS VERSION OF Let’s Get It On. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG AND MOST REMAKES OF IT AND SO I WAS AFRAID OF HOW HE WAS GOING TO INTERPRET IT BUT OMG. THAT WAS BRILLIANT.

Okay, so back to normal caps. No really, he did his own take on it and by the time he stood up with the microphone and all, I swear I was just gasping for breath and smiling stupidly in front of the computer (BTW: I'm at Casa Canlas editing for the last time and thus rendering while watching the performances). Dani, Anna's sister is looking at me weirdly as I have my earphones on and am clapping a la Paula.

Damn boy. Why do you have to give me the sexiest performances week after week?! No really. Total jizz in my pants moment. genrocks, I finally understand. For the love of all things Idol, I need a repeat performance.

And what a great follow up from eternal pretty boy, Kris Allen. I mean it's hard to follow sexiness, but Kris can and he did with his take on How Sweet It Is. This guy was made to be onstage because he's got stage presence and he looks like he's having fun/comfortable. Plus I'm sure he was thinking of his wife when singing this, but I really liked it. He's got a fab voice!

Ok. So this is possibly my favorite Scott MacIntyre performance on the show but it doesn't mean I'm blown away. I'll give it to him, he's got mad piano skills on that intro of You Can’t Hurry Love, but for some reason, I just thought it lacked soul. It felt like it was missing something. Still a good effort from him.

I know I've never been Megan Corkrey's biggest fan, but I do appreciate her unique voice. However, I've heard For Once In My Life a gazillion times before and though she was really peppy and happy with it, I just felt like I've seen this performance before. Sure, her voice is so one of a kind that it makes any song sound new, but this song? Didn't really work for me. I do appreciate how long her legs are and how gorgeous she looks AND let's not forget that she didn't do her little hip shaking. Noted, Megan.

Somewhere in Makati, jamypye is jizzing in her pants. Wow Anoop Desai! Way to go. Now this is a song choice. Singing Oooo Baby Baby and being freaking magnificent at it is the way to get the votes, boy! I knew you had it in you. Two weeks in a row of great performances, I'm hoping this is a winning streak! See, you've got the pipes and the charm! This is why people love you. Keep it freaking up. I'm getting shivers until now.

I feel bad for Michael Sarver just because he's overstayed his welcome. Because people wanted him out last week, anything he does this week will just be something they want to see as his last performance. And if indeed it's his turn to go tomorrow then at least he did good with is Ain't Too Proud To Beg. Boy can sing, no doubt and he's got presence, but I guess I just don't feel attached to him, especially after he botched one of the last few BIG notes. Oh well.

On the other hand, Lil Rounds is still in this thing because she really does have talent. Girl has got pipes! And her performance of Heatwave was anything but boring. BUT I feel no emotional attachment to her. I'm not rooting for her nor do I want her to win. I do believe she's got talent, but that's about it. She hasn't attached herself to me the way Melinda did.

Wow Adam Lambert. Just wow. For the first time ever, I did not have to lower the volume because you actually kept to a normal voice! And that normal voice though is anything but ordinary because see! You can sing! Without being manic. I'm so happy he chose Tracks of my Tears which I've never heard before just because he did it justice without having to oversing. The control of his performance was amazing.

And he may not have gotten the pimp spot but he got the pimp-ed out band, the gelled back hair, the suave suit and the pimp lights. Consider yourself crowned. But more than the hype, I actually really enjoyed it.

I wish Danny Gokey would have sung another song. It wasn't that he didn't sing Get Ready really well because he did. I just felt like he didn't wow me with it. I know he's trying to be upbeat after last week's number but this just didn't do him justice. I was talking to Pamy last week and we were expecting him to do well and this was just okay. Too bad cause it's Motown week!

Dammit Woman Child! Stop impressing me week after week! You're making it harder to love the boys blindly when you're doing so well. Allison Iraheta of course knocks my socks off yet again with Papa Was A Rolling Stone. She deserves this pimp spot because every week she just keeps blowing me away. And wow, I really felt like her dad was a rolling stone. She felt the song. She sang the song. She brought it on home. This ain't no dark horse!!! This is a winna!

Dial Idol has a pretty good prediction and the bottom three is something I sort of agree with. In fairness to Motown week, people kind of impressed me. I'm scared though cause my boys (Anoop, Kris and Matt) were like mind-blowingly good and yet their votes weren't as high. I guess we'll have to see tomorrow.
