Just one look at this girl and I couldn't help but crush on her. The porcelain skin against her dark hair and I knew I was hooked. And then she started talking and I started watching more of her films and I realized, there was actually something behind the oh so pretty face.
Zooey Deschanel has been around for quite some time now and I've been following her though not as rabidly as others. But really, if you want to talk talent, this girl's got it -- plus she's got indie cred to boot (which never hurt anyone). Oh and did I mention how cute she was? Right. I can't say that enough.
1. Zooey has the quirkiest style
"I love vintage. It means you aren't going to see everyone wearing what you are wearing."
She isn't exactly dubbed as a classic or someone who'd end up on the best dressed list, but Zooey looks cute whenever she steps out on the red carpet. Zooey knows how to rock the mini dress and why wouldn't she? She's got awesome legs to boot.
2. Zooey loves her sister
Everything I know about makeup, I've learned from my sister. -- Emily Deschanel
I have two sisters and though none of use are actors or ever will be, it's just nice to know that Zooey and her sister get along and are looking out for one another. Though I haven't seen them collaborate, who knows, maybe in the future we'll see them do something together.
We both tend not to pay much attention to what's socially acceptable, and we like to do crazy stuff. We both love to dance and will dance whenever, wherever, whether there's music playing or not. -- Emily Deschanel on how she and Zooey are similar
3. Zooey's got a wide range
I'm the worst at picking what movies are going to do well. I have no idea. I'm really surprised if a movie I like does well
Her movies aren't exactly box-office wonders, but she always manages to choose off-beat roles and has the funny best friend role down pat. I can't wait to see her in 500 Days of Summer though where she stars oppostie Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I might explode from indie cuteness!
Zooey sings -- well
For a while I was like, "Oh my God, anyone that would release an album as an actor is the biggest fool ever", but I happened to have sung all my life before I was an actor. Why are musicians allowed to become actors? No one ever gives them flack for that.
I've been listening to She & Him ever since Lauren recommended her and damn girl can sing. Then I imagine her with Ben Gibbard and my heart gets all soft inside. How awesome is their future family (if ever) going to be right? For now though, I can sit happy listening to Volume One.
5. Zooey has the lowest profile ever
I don't really like to go out very much. I'm not scandalous. I'm not, like, in this to be famous. I also find it so embarrassing when you read about people and it's like they were so trashed at Skybar and stumbling around. I don't want to be that person. That's just so embarrassing to have that written about you.
I wanted to see a picture of her and Ben walking down the road to get some coffee or something and I couldn't find a single paparazzi shot of her at all. Does this girl come out of her house? And then I realized, hey it's actually possible to not be all over the place. Ok, so maybe it's because she's not quite on the A-List just yet, but hello, reality hos get more paparazzi than her. Not that I'm complaining, in fact, it amazes me that she's evaded them for so long. Go Zooey!
On her music:
Sometimes I like the movies I'm in, sometimes I don't. Whereas this, I could say: This is me. I like it. I stand by it.
I sort of always liked everything antique — it always just felt like a treat, like a little treasure. Compared to old music, new music just felt, by and large, sort of soulless. Though I’m sure there are tons of horrible old records I know nothing about.
I think we both agreed that perfection isn’t making something perfectly symmetrical.
It’s really great to have a creative partnership, to be totally involved in something I can take full responsibility for — if somebody doesn’t like it or loves it, I’m to blame either way. It’s empowering.
On keeping things real:
Honestly, I don’t want to live my life being influenced by anticipating other people’s reactions to what I do. The moment you sense someone is making something because they think people are gonna buy it or like it, it’s just so phony! The public has a nose for phony like nobody else.
