emma; only girl in the world

Not Really Thinking Creatively

We had our Creative Thinking Session for Pol Sci 14. I was so nervous before the class even happened. I told my mom to pray that my name wouldn't be chosen. It was random after all.

Low and behold, I was picked. First name out of the damn cup actually. Just my luck. I was unfortunately delegated to answer the questions of the opposing team, and that didn't sit too well with me, for a number of reasons.
  1. I don't like speaking on the spot about topics I'm not very well versed at.
  2. I don't like being scrutinized by an audience as I make a fool out of myself.
  3. I don't like being graded while doing #1 or #2.

Of course, as I stood in front of the class, beside two Pol Sci majors, I felt like an idiot. With the rapidfire questions of the other bloodthirsty group, I honestly thought I was going to hurl. I'm a very combative person, and I was trying my best to pacify that side of me lest I jump to the audience and claw out the eyeballs of every person who gave me a condescending glance.

Of course, I may have been imagining things, but the room was getting hotter (thanks to the risings tempers that people tried and failed to supress). I'm no good at public speaking. Thus, I know I will stink at debate -- which the class will also have before the end of the semester.

My group was pretty good, but I know we could have done better. We're not yet as "bonded" as the other group who had already managed to do a team huddle before the presentation, but I guess we did our best. I hope we do better next time though.

School has officially begun.
