Contradicting myself... again

I can't believe I'm already awake. I slept barely six hours and I've already gone to mass. That's crazy. Even for me. It's the weekend for goodness sakes! The thing is, I got home at around two am or something like that this morning. Well, I had fun at the party. In fact, I think that's the most fun I've had in years.

My entire barkada went for the first time in history. We were complete and for me, that's what made the entire night worth it. For the first time, I wasn't looking out for anyone, I was just having fun dancing! A lot of surprises that night too. I hadn't been to a party in the longest time and it was just fun to let my hair down. Although this term doesn't quite fit me as I have no hair to let down.

Still, I had a ton of f-u-n!!! Maybe, it is a sign I'm getting a hold of my life and moving on. That night was a night of other firsts too. I actually thought about what I was going to wear. And no, I wasn't out to impress anyone. In fact, before, I was trying to do the opposite. I always used to dress down, thinking that I didn't want to look like I cared there was anyone there. But now, I dressed up for myself. Sure, I didn't look that spectacular, but I felt good. And feeling good about myself hasn't happened in a looooong time either.

After all that dancing in high high high heels, my feet were just about to collapse and die on me. They felt even worse than when I fell down the ravine with the bike on Friday -- and that's saying a lot because that hurt. Still, the extra height gave me a boost of confidence I need every bit of it. People who weren't used to seeing me all dressed up, complimented me too. Who cares if I didn't meet anyone? The fact that the old folks I knew were there and had a blast with me was great!

In fact, after last night, I have to say that chivalry isn't dead yet. We just have to look real carefully. Thank you to you, I don't know if you know who you are, or even read this, but thanks because even for that short time, you showed me that there is hope for all boys out there who don't know sh**. Any girl would be lucky to have you. Thank you for restoring my faith in all you XY-chromosomed creatures.

Extra day

I can't believe my Sunday is almost over. The weekend just whizzed by like that (snaps fingers). I just think that they should make weekends a tad bit longer. One day more would certainly be enough for me. Just one more extra day to bum around.

Of course, I'd say that with this extra day, I would be able to squeeze in more time for school work, but we all know that I would just be lying. In fact, I know fully well, that if I do get an extra day, all I'd be doing was bumming around and wasting it like I always do.

Right now, I'm in Mama Lily's house. It's her birthday tomorrow and I guess that's what we always do. Greet her before her birthday. It's been a tradition of sorts I guess, so who am I to end a tradition? It's the same thing every time and I have to say I'm sort of desensitized to it already. Not that I'm complaining, because the funny thing about all of it, is that I actually enjoy it. This is how it usually goes:

  • We're always late
They usually have to call us up at home to tell us that they're all there already and that maybe if we wanted to get a move on we should, because all of them are quite hungry. The trip shouldn't be that long though. Mama only lives a few minutes away.

  • We chow in the sala
Yes, the designated place for us kiddies is the living room. The adults get the dining room complete with the table while we the children (we are still referred to as kids even if we comprise of working photographers to graduating students and full-fledged dj's, researchers and even soon-to-be up-and-coming writers) get stuck with the table-less matted floors.

  • We bum around and let the food sink in
This is usually when most of the talking among the cousins happens. We do our usual how-are-you's and all the fun stuff. I like this part the most. Especially when we gang up on people. Not very fun though when it's me their joking. Still, I'm not one to complain. I just like the good fun that happens. At least we get along.

  • We transfer to the "other side" for the two D's
Dessert and DVDs. That's what gets us going. While the oldies do the talking, we do the watching and eating -- again. CSI marathons, or any DVD that's available actually. We're very easy to please. Today, the movie selected was Honey with Jessica Alba. Nice body, pretty face. She just tried too hard to be ghetto. Not a movie I could sit through actually. I had to fast forward it to the dance sequences. Really dumb and predictable story line too. Entertaining nevertheless.

  • We troop back to the "other side" to collect our things
This takes a bit of a time as we take forever to get things together. We figure out which of the left-overs we want to continue eating at home. We try collecting our messed up things and we try our best to squeeze in as much dessert. This takes a really really really long time because a lot of chit chat is done in the process. It's the last ditch effort to share any stories we forgot to tell.

  • The final goodbye's
We're getting good at this. We used to take more than forever. Now, we just take an eternity. The never-ending saga of who goes first and kissing everyone goodbye as if we wouldn't see them the week after next. This is fun though, as it's hilarious how no one can keep track of who's kissed whom. We end up kissing everyone at least three times. And off we are to the cars on the way home.

Seriously, every time we meet, it's the same thing. Talk about monotony. Who knows? If and I repeat, if I do get married one day, what crazy ritual my non-existent-husband-to-be's family will have. We might even seem normal in comparison to them.
