April: Always Be My Baby (David Cook)

There's just something about David Cook's performance during Mariah Carey week that got me all hot and bothered. Thing is, this song was in tough competition with "Here You Come Again" by Carly Smithson and "It's Al Wrong, But It's Alright" by Michael Johns. But because I loved listening to David live, watching him live and his studio version of this song, this trumps the others.

March: Feels So Good (BC 111)

*Let me interrupt my regular LJ entries with some serious/shameless pimpage*

If you've been reading me complain about BC 111 and the grueling hours I poured into it, then I'm proud to say that we're finally done (with production and NOT the launch).

For our advanced radio production class, we had to create five different podcasts for our client, Figaro. At the beginning of the semester, we brainstormed on what exactly our podcasts would be about. The class decided on the different "Senses of Coffee." My group (me, Simon and Levi) were in charge of the hearing sense so we were tasked of making the jingle.

I don't write music and neither do my groupmates, but due to pressure, we were forced to cough up lyrics. The music though, we couldn't leave to chance. So I bugged my brother Pietro and my cousin, Miguel to create the melody. Finally after ten thousand revisions, here's the final product.

FEELS SO GOOD

You can listen to all the other podcasts of my class at Stir Your Senses. If you live in Manila and are free on the 9th of April at 4pm, come to the launch of the podcasts at Figaro, Meralco Strip (in front of Medical City). It would mean a lot to me if you came. Also, if you want to win prizes, just answer the super easy questions about the podcasts and you could win stuff!

Won't Go Home Without You
Seriously. How could I even consider NOT going to this concert? Really? What was I thinking? Scared I wouldn't be awake/aware for my 124 Drama finals? Who cares? Because really, for that 1 plus hour that I was dancing and singing my lungs out to Maroon 5 was well worth every peso every hour I spent away from "preparing for finals."

I had a very full Wednesday, starting off with a talk in Poveda in the morning, BC 111 listening session that afternoon, watching a few films for BC 123 and then the concert. So by the time I arrived in Araneta (with terrible traffic and no parking), I was quite tired already.

It didn't start on time (durr), so it was good because we got a good pre-show, despite there not being an opening act. Seeing all sorts of "celebrities" walk in to the patron seats was fun. There was Heart Evangelista, Sam Milby and Anne Curtis (holding hands), Bayani Fernando and his family, and Eula Valdez. But my favorite celebs were Sam and Kai! Kai took all the photos I used cause I actually didn't bring a camera. Keeps Me Coming Back For More )

February: Hit Me With Your Best Shot (Pat Bentar)
For my BC 124 class, I had to produce/direct/act in a music video. First off, it was difficult to pick a song that would be believable coming out of my mouth. I wanted to do "Crush" by Mandy Moore but no one would believe that Mandy's voice were coming out of my mouth. So after much playing of Guitar Hero 3, I realized that why not take a stab at this song.

Thanks to [info]dudemangiano and [info]theloocritic for helping me out with the video; [info]celeni for her fabulous shoes and to Nel for her stockings. Inspired by the ever fashionista, Anna and Bad Ass Popular Sandy. This is probably the only time you'll ever see me going crazy, so might as well take it. PS. Don't laugh. Fire Away! )

Doesn't It Make You Feel So Good?
I don't know how producers can do this for a living. If I weren't in this class, I don't think I would ever understand just how much work goes into producing a song. First off, this is amateur stuff we're doing and yet the level of difficulty and stress is terribly high. To top it off, there's the fact that we're not producing just for fun, this is for a client. A real client.

From writing the song, to composing the music, to rehearsing the actual song with all the talents, to making sure all the equipment is ready for recording, to the actual loooong and tiring and tedious process of recording. I knew music producing was tough, but I didn't know it was THIS tough. By the end of the day, I didn't feel so good )

Food, Water Music

Still, despite the tears I shed (over the shock of not having RCA cables -- and a professor told me that people who cry easily are very stressed OR weak), and the ultra LSS I was feeling, I have to admit I feel happy and proud and just all around a better person after this. I didn't think I would come out alive, but by midnight of Wednesday, I could say that we survived it and we didn't just "pull it off," we worked our asses off.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this possible. I'd list you all, but this entry is waaaaay too long already. I know there's still post production to do (hours upon hours of editing, mixing and just making it work), but somehow I feel like the worst is over. Or so I hope. I can't wait to finish producing this song.
