It's that time of year again when I break out the holiday playlist and listen to it nonstop while I slave away at the office wishing instead I was at home doing nothing with my family. But alas, real life beckons and the least I could do to feel the holiday spirit is to listen to tunes whilst there is no snow outside my window and instead holiday traffic and empty pockets.
So let's not be Scrooge-y and instead focus on the holiday cheer. I'll have my family complete somehow and some downtime for a little bit of rest, hopefully. And I'm sending out my holiday cards TODAY, so that should reach you 2012, but hey, better late than never, right?
She & Him - Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree
Of course M. Ward and Zooey wouldn't leave this holiday behind and I'm so glad she did an album because it's just beautiful and fun and so very them. Plus not all holiday music needs to be in-your-face cheery; She & Him prove you can do relaxed holiday music and still be in the holiday mood. I heart it.
Scott Weiland - Winter Wonderland
THIS GUY IS FROM STONE TEMPLE PILOTS. I would not have realized this if it wasn't pointed out to me because what is he doing in a Christmas album and sounding awesome. Not that rock music and holiday cheer are mutually exclusive, it just wasn't the first thing to come to mind. So yes, pleasant surprise this entire album was.
Dean Martin feat. Scarlett Johansson - I'll be Home for Christmas
This girl is collaborating with everyone, yes? I do love her voice so I won't complain. Though this isn't one of my usual favorites (it's too gloomy), I do love the message and with the family coming together, it gets me choked up (when I'm on my period and hormonal) especially when you see this video on people coming home. It's horribly depressing but happy too.
The Killers - The Cowboys Christmas Ball
Leave it to The Killers to come up with an unconventional one. This one has cowboys and guns and a desert all in one. But it's fun and it grows on you and is a break from all the usual bells and whistles and ho-ho-ho's that carols have so I'll take it.
Justin Bieber feat. Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas is You
Yes, not even Bieber could ruin this song for me. Of course, I'm still focusing on the Mariah bits but this song is just pure love that even Bieber just added a 'superfestive' vibe to it. He really needs to find a haircut that works on him though.
