I'm glad they had it if just to fit Anoop in, but I feel like it was a cop out considering Jasmine wasn't very good. I like the girl, she looks nice, but her performance just wasn't enough to justify an extra week of Idol (unless another twist is they kick two people out on the first night). But more on that later.
For a wild card round, it wasn't pretty wild. There was a clear winner for me and the others were sort of disappointing. That winner was Matt Giraud. He came back, guns ablazing with his amazing take on Who's Loving You. The bluesy tone was back and he just sang the hell out of that song. This. Is. Matt. Giraud! I swear I don't know how I made it alive through that performance because he practically sailed through.
Second for me would probably be Ricky Braddy who I feel gave a really good performance of Superstition. No Simon, that's not karaoke. It's so hard to sing Stevie and Ricky did it justice. He showed personality and was amazing. Of course the judges just gave him a second chance due to his talent, but I guess the producers didn't think they could exploit enough of a backstory for him to be 'cast' in the Top
Then of course Anoop-Dawg Desai did a repeat of his performance of My Prerogative and though it really clearly was not the best vocal ever, his stage presence just totally blew me away. Boy knows how to work the microphone and the stage. He was just going nuts there! And it was fun to watch. Pamy was on the floor practically. Go Anoop!
Surprisingly I liked Jesse Langseth. Girl was hot with her dress on and that song! This girl has a really good tone to her and it showed with her rendition of Tell Me Something Good. I really found it interesting and I was so disappointed Jasmine got in instead of her. I don't even like Jesse!
The lower half for me would start off with Tatiana Del Toro. So I'm not a fan of repeating the song either, and she didn't exactly start Saving all my love for you as strongly as she could have. But she ended it really well and reminded us why she's there. Those pipes are made of gold. What I didn't like? This desperate attempt at being 'crazy' again. It's like, pick a side woman!
I liked Megan Corkrey during auditions but she's somehow been a bit blah for me lately. Yes, woman has a voice of her own, but I just don't like the dancing and the song choice. Black Horse and Cherry Tree felt indulgent. That was what felt indulgent to me. And that last flat note! In "you're not the one for ME" she totally screwed up me and the judges didn't even call her out on it. I know she's got fans and will probably grow on me, but I felt bad for Jesse.
To say I was expecting more from Von Smith would be an understatement. Considering he was the only one from the third round called back should have been something. Except now we know why he keeps opening his mouth so wide. Cause when he doesn't, it's not as good. And I love Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word. He just didn't do it justice and he started off terribly. It's too bad.
In last place for me would be Jasmine Murray. I know girl is getting a lot of hate now, and I don't want to add to it, but she chose the most cliche song competition song ever. Reflection!?! Really now?! And if you do sing this, make sure you blow me away. Which you didn't. So am I liking you in the Top 13? No.
Still, I'm excited that Matt and Anoop got into the Top 13. I don't know how the hell I'm going to do my predictions this year cause i was looking at the list last night and was thoroughly confused. I did win last year with my winning prediction of the Cook/Archuleta showdown. How I did that? I do not know.
Who had the best performance of the night?
Who had the worst performance of the night?
Which three Wild Card-ers should have made it to the Top 12?
And if you want to participate in my Top 13 Predictions, wherein I predict before the Top 13 even perform who will get kicked out every week (I do this with my family every single year), then go vote on the next poll. It's a Scale poll. So each Top 13 finalist gets one question and you have put in at what stage do you think they'll be kicked out. So say for Michael Sarver, you think he'll be gone in the Top 13 (first Round), then vote him for Number 13. And if you think Anoop Desai will win (then you vote him as Number 1).
You can only rank one person for each number and if you don't then I won't consider the ballot. It sounds difficult but it's fun! That is if you want to join only. Join! And if you're not on LJ, just fill out this form and put it in the comments (i've screened them so no getting influenced!)
