American Idol 7: Top 10 Elimination

After last night's sort of boring display of singing talent (or lack thereof), I was seriously hoping half of them got removed. I wasn't too pleased with Ramiele, Chikezie and even Brooke. Ramiele for not hitting the big notes; Chikezie for being forgettable (and he can't, not in the Top 10), and well Brooke too. Because if ANYONE else flubbed the first note, they wouldn't get off that easily and even be praised for it. Thank your lucky stars Brooke.

But alas, Kristy Lee Cook's got some brains after all by picking the BEST ever song to sing on American Idol -- not for her vocal prowess but for it's meaning. I think BuzzSugar said it best

Maybe I'm overly cynical, but I could almost see her thought process: "Well, they didn't like when I did twang, and they didn't like me when I ripped up my jeans, but maybe the country crowd will get on board when I sing about America!"

Thing is, I really feel bad for Syesha because she was fantabulous last night and yet she still gets bottom 3-ed. And Jason!!! Bottom 3? I guess he sort of deserved it, but Castronauts!? Where are you!!! We must unite and keep our Jason safe. Congratulations to Pamy for getting it right this week.

it's a shame that Chikezie got the boot at this early stage of the competition, since his was one of the strongest, most soulful voices of the season — and, by virtue of his chameleonic performance style and boundless enthusiasm, he was a contestant I always looked forward to, even if he didn't always live up to his promise.

Chikezie - Eliminated March 27, 2008
In fairness to this guy, he's got a voice and he is likeable. I never really did hate him. But unlucky for him, I never loved him either. When her first performed at the Top 24, though I was assaulted by his orange suit, I liked his performance of "More Today than Yesterday" and though I can't really single out any other performance, I guess both his Beatles performances were pretty good. But alas due to Kristy being clever, Ramiele and Danny's combined Harajuku fan power voting, Chikezie's got to go.
