American Idol 6: Top 6 AGAIN Elimination

We all knew this was going to be a long show. How could it not? Two kickouts and for some reason, I knew that I was going to be depressed any way they did this thing. Because they're combining two weeks of votes, it was difficult to see who would go and who would stay.

Last night's performances were entertaining and that's all I can say, because as they idols dwindle down, I get more depressed. The show is ending soon -- really really soon. In three weeks, it'll be over. That's like one session of IW in high school. Sometimes I feel like the show is rigged, because would they really risk the winner based on votes? Of course, that's just the bitter Patty talking.

I'm not so certain about Phil, whose clear, strong rendition of ''Blaze of Glory'' was the best performance he's given all season, but perhaps only the evening's fourth best. Combine it with a slightly forgettable showing during ''Idol Gives Back'' week, and he might be giving a repeat reading of the line ''I'm goin' out in a blaze of glory'' during Wednesday's results show. If he does make his exit, the young gun can leave with his head held high. The judges are never going to love him — was Paula's comment that ''this is a year of your life you'll never forget'' supposed to come off as praise? — but the bald-headed dude did not miss a single note, and his gray jacket with groovy black embroidery cracks my list of the five best articles of clothing (men's division) for the season. Where'd he get it? And can I afford it? (Only if I win big on the Kentucky Derby this weekend. Go Street Sense!)

Those freaks got it again. What is up with them? Are they secretly behind this show? Because if they are, then Jordin is going to win this. They're all so lovey for Jordin, and yeah, she's talented, but I have suddenly no love for her, when I used to love this girl. Give me my Stacey back!!!

Phil Stacey - Eliminated May 2, 2007
Why the hell did they kick my Phil Stacey out? Has he not been performing well enough? He freaking has. Seriously. This guy has been busting his chops every single week to give us amazing performances and we don't even make him reach the top 4? Phil is the most sincere, humble contestant ever. Yes, Melinda it isn't you. Sure, he's got the scary bug eyes and a little undead feeling going on, but at least he was genuine. When he took criticism, it wasn't condescending. This guy doesn't have an ego.

I'll never forget his performances of Missing You -- which just sealed the Phil Stacey deal for me. His oh so beautiful rendition of I'm Gonna Make You Love Me just made me feel warm and fuzzy everytime. And I don't care what the judges think because I so loved his take on Every Breath You Take! And hello? Was nobody listening to his classic performance of Night and Day? He's no Cole Porter, but he totally rocked that song. Where the Blacktop Ends isn't my favorite song ever, lord knows I'm not a country fan, but Phil totally owned that song and made me love him even more. The Change was probably one of two songs that actually inspired me during inspirational week. Seriously. And of course, yesterday's rocking it out take on Blaze Of Glory should have been enough to make him stay. But no, it didn't.

Are the judges happy now? Every chance they get, they seem to put Stacey down. Seriously. Can't they not give him any love at all without some little snippet of 'you're going home' or 'you've made it far enough'? And does this guy answer back a la Barba? No. He smiles and graciously and humbly takes it, always trying to improve. I will sorely miss Phil Stacey. He was the sweetest idol this year. Damn you divas!!!
Sorry for yet another horse-racing reference, but since the damage is done, can I say that we're left with Chris Richardson and Jordin Sparks bringing up the back of the pack? And yes, I'm listing them in order. ''Wanted Dead or Alive'' was certainly one of Chris R.'s personal-best performances, mostly on key and with very little ''nasally,'' but at this point, he just seems outclassed — compared with both the current crop of finalists and those of seasons past. Indeed, given Chris R.'s own mention of Chris Daughtry's superior season 5 cover of ''Wanted,'' you have to wonder why he didn't opt for a different song. Maybe he's got the same hunch as Simon: He did as much as he could have possibly hoped to do, and it's probably not enough to help him crack the top four. Even so, I thought it was kind of a low blow for Ryan to introduce the dude as ''Justin Timberlake.''

Holy crap. These people need to get a job at the CIA or in the government because they can predict the future. I won't be surprised if Nigel Lythgoe is bankrolling this entire site. But really, what are these people eating? I want some CAKE!!! I want my CAKE REUNITED!!! Now, Blake is all alone. Bring ChrisSexyBack!!!!

Chris Richardson - Eliminated May 2, 2007
Nasal-y can only be done by Chris R. And now without him, I will no longer hear nasal-y as a form of singing. He will surely be missed. But really, this guy wasn't my favorite in the beginning. In fact, I bashed him all the way from the start 'til he made it to the top 12. I hated all three of his performances in the semi-finals and was practically cursing him to death. I would have never thought of putting him in my favorites banner. No way was he going to be put with Blake?

But this charmer worked his magic on me and right after his spell-binding performance of The Boss, I knew I was a slave. This song has 93 plays on my iPod and it's not going to stop getting played. And who knew he could be "soulful" with Don't let the sun catch you crying? Even my dad was entertained! He thought Chris had a shot at this. And damn it! How sexy was this guy with the silhouette on the screen during the starting notes of Don't Get Around Much Anymore? Seriously. I was practically on the floor screaming to have his babies at this point! And though he couldn't possibly Change the World with that performance, he definitely changed my mind and I was rooting for him all the way.

Yes, it doesn't hurt as much that he's leaving. This guy, though charming, has the nasal-y thing pat down, and it's not exactly the most pleasing thing on earth. I could have taken it if they took Chris out and kept Phil or took Phil out and kept Chris. But take both of them out? It's like ripping my heart out and then bashing my brains. Or pulling out my fingernails and then pouring vinegar on it while rubbing salt on it. This is pure torture.

This leaves Blake as the last man standing. Can all the girls please stand behind the lone man left. No offense to the girls. They're all talented, but I just have no love for them. Seriously. Why couldn't they have taken out one girl and one boy? The stupid producers must really be pushing for a 3-Divas top 3, which will just leave me barfing and bawling. Chris and Phil will be missed terribly, if not by everyone, then at least by me -- and Pamy (who found out that Pandora is shutting us out cause we don't live in the US). Here's to the lamest top 4 (minus Blake of course) ever.

This day couldn't have gotten any worse. Seriously. The only bright spot for today are the studio versions of last night's performances and only half of them make me happy. Pamy and Pio have gotten something right. Looks like it's only me who hasn't got a single thing correct. At this point, I really don't care anymore. This show is depressing me to bits.
